Ultimate Guitar Is Great for Learning a Song. Rehearsal Is a Different Problem.

Ultimate Guitar is genuinely good at one thing: learning a song. Huge library, multiple versions, strum patterns, a scrolling auto-scroller — for sitting down alone and figuring out how a song goes, it's hard to beat. The problems start once that song needs to leave your bedroom and get in front of a band.

Everyone needs their own account, and their own luck

To see a chart on Ultimate Guitar, each person needs their own account. For a full band or a jam with guests, that means the guitarist, the bassist, the singer sitting in for one song — everybody signs up separately, then searches the song separately, then hopes they all land on the same version. Multiple submissions exist for most songs, so "same song" doesn't guarantee "same chart." Nobody's actually looking at the same thing unless someone catches it and says so out loud.

A Jam Session in ChordPro Studio skips all of that. One host starts the session and shares a link or QR code; guests just open it in a browser — no account, no searching, no picking the "right" version. Everyone's looking at the exact same chart because there's only one, and it updates on every phone at once as the host moves through the song.

A chart to print, not a file to keep

Ultimate Guitar gives you a page to print or a block of text to copy and paste — there's no real export to a ChordPro file built in. Save the page as a PDF instead, though, and upload that PDF straight into ChordPro Studio. AI reads the chords and lyrics off the page and builds the real .pro file for you — no retyping it yourself, bracket by bracket.

Every chart in ChordPro Studio, however it got there, is a real, plain-text .pro file. Edit it in the built-in editor, download it, and it's yours — it opens in any other ChordPro-compatible app too, not just this one.

No ads mid-song

Ultimate Guitar's free tier runs ads on the chart page itself — not the end of the world for casual browsing, but genuinely annoying when you're trying to glance at the next line during a take. Charts in ChordPro Studio, and every screen in a Jam Session, are just the chart.

Still need a chart to start from?

If Ultimate Guitar doesn't have your song at all — an original, a rearranged cover, something obscure — ChordPro Studio can also generate a starting chart directly from an MP3 or WAV recording. It's a first draft to fine-tune in the editor, not a guaranteed-accurate final chart, but it beats staring at a blank file. For songs Ultimate Guitar already has covered well, that step isn't even necessary — import the chart you already trust and run the rehearsal from there instead.

Use both for what each is good at

Ultimate Guitar is still a fine place to work out how a song goes on your own. ChordPro Studio is for what happens next: one real chart file, shared with the whole band with no account required and no ads in the way, kept in sync from whoever's leading the song.
